Solamente Brasil y la Argentina, en conjunto, producen un tercio del total de soja del planeta. La expansión del cultivo de la soja se ha producido también en Salta, especialmente durante los últimos años, aunque esta expansión muestra diferencias significativas con las registradas en el último censo de 1988.
